We are proud to be expanding our opportunities for families to partner with Broome County Habitat for Humanity. Our Homebuyer program has a long, successful history in our community.   We are seeking to grow into a program called, "A Brush with Kindness", offering critical home repair, expanding our mission of providing decent affordable housing in our community. (for each of our programs, applicants must meet specific income requirements)

Family Partnership Program

We build new and rehab homes with the end goal of helping families to secure an affordable mortagage loan to purchase. Families who partner with Broome County Habitat take classes on financial literacy, foreclosure prevention, homeownership and home basic maintenance.

We are currently accepting applications for 2016/2017.

The application can be found using the link below, emailed upon request or picked up at our 103 Adams Avenue Endicott office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays by appointment only.
Only completed applications will be considered.  Please include all requested information.
Once complete, they may be dropped off or mailed to our office.

To be considered for Broome County Habitat for Humanity's home ownership program (NOW SERVING TIOGA COUNTY), families must have lived in Broome County or Tioga for the previous twelve months and meet the following criteria:


  1. Housing is unsafe or has critical inadequacies such as problems with the structure, heating, water or electrical systems.
  2. They spend more than 30% of their income on rent and heat combined.
  3. All or part of the family is living with someone else due to housing issues.
  4. They are overcrowded. This includes:
    a. more than 2 children share a room
    b. children share a room with an adult
    c. children of the opposite sex share a room
    d. rooms other than bedrooms are used for sleeping

If selected, families become a partner with Habitat. Each family must:

  1. Complete between 400-500 hours of volunteer work (sweat equity hours) on the construction of your home and the homes of Habitat families.
  2. Attend workshops in which you will learn valuable financial and home maintenance skills to assist you in being a successful homeowner.
  3. Make a down payment of $500 and be prepared to pay for closing costs of approximately $2500.

Since selected families will be purchasing this house from Habitat, they will be paying a monthly mortgage which includes real estate taxes and homeowner's insurance. Therefore, regardless of your household size each family must:

  1. Each applicant must have a steady and verifiable monthly income of at least $2,130 or  an annual income of at least $25,560. (Maximum amounts see chart below.)
  2. Be willing to let Habitat verify all income sources and check their credit report.
  3. Have income that does not fall below 40% or exceed 60% of the median family income for Broome or Tioga Counties.

Families with income under or above the amounts in the chart below are not eligible for Habitat's FAMILY PARTNERSHIP program (Use the guidelines for the county from which you are applying.)
